The Labour Party reiterated its role to continue to work in favour of gender equality and to fight against all form of discrimination that hinders the role of women in society.

Today marks the international women’s day. In a statement, Justyne Caruana, PL spokesperson for equality, said that Malta is lagging behind other European countries when it comes to equality rights between men and women.

The PL spokesperson urged the government to help women to enter into the workforce, adding that female participation in the workforce is among the lowest in the EU.

On Sunday, Labour Leader Joseph Muscat, insisted that the PL’s role is to continue to improve women’s rights in society. He also pointed out that despite opposition, it was a Labour government, which gave women the right to vote.
