Tariffs expected to Increase - PL

Families can no longer cope with the high water and electricity tariffs being imposed on them, Labour Party spokesperson on family and equality Justyne Caruana said yesterday.

“Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi should feel ashamed that his government has become so inconsiderate regarding the strain that these water and electricity tariffs are causing hundreds of families across Malta and Gozo.

“What is more worrying is that there are indications that these tariffs are expected to rise in the forthcoming weeks, which will lead to great social and economic repercussions
. This is another blow to those families and persons who are on the verge of falling well below the poverty line,” said Dr Caruana.
Dr Caruana added that the Labour Party is willing to liaise with the government regarding these tariffs, so that some form of agreeable solution can be reached for the benefit of all those living in Malta and Gozo.
