Government shoud devote more resources for children - PL

The Labour Party’s spokesperson on the family and equality, Justyne Caruana, said Malta needed to take immediate action to address the situation in which thousands of children are suffering.

She was referring to the results announced in the Child Poverty Action Group report, released in the UK last week, in which Maltese children ended in last place out of 29 European countries, in the child well-being index.

The report showed that Maltese children needed much wider attention, Dr Caruana said. A study by Dr Angela Abela and Fr Charles Tabone has also shown that one out of every five children is in danger of poverty.

Dr Caruana said the government needed to intensify its work in the child sector by devoting more

resources and restructuring those bodies operating in it, to make them more effective and accessible to children which needed them.
