The case of Clayton Micallef poses an opportunity for the government to practice what it has been preaching with regards to inclusion. |

This problem was not encountered only by Clayton but a number of Maltese and Gozitan families who live with a disabled person. In fact, there are many demands for home help by these families, many of which have been pending for months and even years.
The recurrent reason given by the government is always that of a lack of human and material resources, imparted the labour spokesperson. However, the government has never really addressed these problems. ‘Persons who have a disability also have their own rights and there needs to be a substantial improvement in their quality of life, along with a more positive attitude that should result in concrete actions so that their rights are truly respected and strengthened,’ Justyne Caruana said. “Respecting one’s right is not an act of charity,” concluded Justyne Caruana.
