Honesty

Malta Star (15-08-2007)

Honesty is the best policy and in politics honesty is of utmost importance.

Recently, Maltatoday published the latest surveys about Gozo and indeed PN lost ground considerably in Gozo. From her end, Minister Debono retaliated on party media reiterating her repertoire of the last four or five years. But mind you Gozitans learned the lesson. We have been promised a lot but with regards to delivery, the shortcomings were a lot as well.

During this patching up programme on 101, Minister Debono also mentioned the decompression camber. This is another good one. This equipment was inaugurated with all pomp in December and so far no patients were treated. They say they need to recruit staff but come on let’s be truthful for once – the chamber does not function and all cases are being referred to St Luke’s Hospital. We were also promised a state of the art chamber but look at what we have!

The school/law court project is also something Government seems to proud of. To me it is nonsense. In the legal profession we all thrive to keep minors away from court because it may be a traumatic experience. Now they intend to build the law courts right next to the school. I really wonder who is behind this idea capsizing what child psychologists, social workers, probation officers etc have been fighting for all those years.

These people in charge have to be honest not only with themselves but also with the people. Gozitans are experiencing this lack of honesty and yes that is why percentages are dropping down and will continue to do so because Gozitans crave for honesty – which only a Labour Government can give.
