Carnival is not Over.

Malta Star (23-02-2007)

Last Wednesday I was listening to a nationalist parliamentary secretary debating in Parliament about the glorious past of the nationalist party and of all the things they did – welfare state, free education etc. I have to confess that I had a crisis of identity because this MP from the PN side was mentioning things that according to him the PN did when in fact everybody knows that these are monuments of Labour Governments of which we are all very proud and still form the very basis of our policies and vision.

Lately we are also witnessing grotesque behaviour as well. The more local elections approach the more PN seems to be eager to vaunt ‘wares’ to the electorate with the launching of incentives and opening of playing fields – we also had loads of concrete covering passage ways in various parts of Gozo raping the natural state of Tas-Sanap in Munxar and Wied l-Infern in Zebbug. This is no political satire but a political tragedy trying to win over votes at all costs even depriving humanity of such natural treasures.

Well, but as I said, carnival is officially over and people are fed up of senseless games.
