Barking in Vain |

All publicity is good publicity I am told and it is true. Lately, I also had my fair share of publicity and I really have to thank Net News and other PN media for that. The last saga related to the Youth Policy Document the Malta Labour Party launched last Saturday. The feedback we got so far is thumbs up which means that the document and the proposals are good – well that is what experts are for, to have the best result possible. During the launching we solicited all stakeholders and the public in general to come forward with criticism and suggestions because we want to involve people in what we are doing. I do welcome criticism because it means that the document is being read and sifted. The PN however, is a bit limited in this and tended to fall in ridicule. During the launching, Net reporter asked why we left University students out. I did not blame him then because he did not have the time to read the document so we pinpointed out to him the part where University students are mentioned. Also since University students are youths, the whole document applies to them automatically. However, sometimes I really wonder if PN media people really do bother to consider what we say – they just pick up something on the way and go head on with it. Very superficial, I think! Well they do not seem to bother about youths after all because all they seem concerned about is attacking me personally. On a personal level it is quite flattering I have to admit. But, come on, just be serious for once – and if you have some sound comments to make you are most welcome but otherwise you are barking in vain. |
